London Tigers: le tigri di Westminster

I London Tigers iniziano l’attività nel 1986, sotto il nome di Marylebone FC. La rosa è composta da un gruppo di volontari con la passione per il calcio, che si allena alla North Westminster Upper School. All’inizio il Marylebone FC disputa competizioni locali, diventando squadra delle comunità asiatiche londinesi.

A metà degli anni ’90 si decide di cambiare rotta: viene modificato il nome in London Tigers, con la speranza di raggruppare la comunità del North Westminster. La nuova squadra diviene un punto di riferimento per le persone asiatiche in UK, tanto da partecipare alla Inner City World Cup e diventando la prima squadra asiatica a vincere il trofeo, nel 2001. Nella loro breve storia hanno organizzato molti eventi, come la UK Asian Community Cup, in collaborazione con il Chelsea, dando la possibilità ai vincitori di giocare a Stamford Bridge.

Nel 2002, i Tigers entrano nella Middlesex County Premier League. Nel 2006 vincono la Alex Smith Premier Divisions Cup . Nel 2006, dopo aver ottenuto i successi nella Middlesex County League, i London Tigers aderiscono alla Spartan Midlands League, dando la possibilità ai giovani di giocare in un club semi-pro.

Con la nuova sfida, arriva anche la fusione con il Kingsbury Town FC. Il nuovo manager diventa Eddie Cardoso e la squadra assume il nome di Kingsbury London Tigers. Dal 2007 al 2010, Valdas Dambrauskas diviene manager. L’obiettivo del club è quello di valorizzare i giovani. I risultati arrivano. Un quinto posto nel 2009, sfiorando la promozione, è il primo significativo step. Nel 2008 dopo 100 anni un club di Westmister arriva al 1° Turno di Qualificazione in FA Cup.

Sempre nello stesso anno, la squadra compie un ottimo cammino in FA Vase, uscendo al 1° Turno per mano del Biggleswade United, dopo aver eliminato l’Hatfield Town e il Takeley. Nel 2010-2012 Giorgi Minashvili diventa manager del club, nel 2011 cambiano casa, trasferendosi a Greenford e ritornando a chiamarsi London Tigers. Nella stagione 2012/13 Armand Kavaja diventa manager. Oggi sono impegnati nella Spartan South Midlands League.
